Agra
Famous as the 'City of the Taj', Agra is one of the
most traveled tourist destinations in the world. Agra is world-famous
for its magnificent Taj Mahal, perhaps the finest and the most
beautiful historic monument in the world. One of the most fascinating
cities of India, Agra has a very rich political and cultural past,
which is more than 500 years old. Akbar, one of the greatest emperors
of India, made Agra his capital city in 1565 AD and started the
construction of the magnificent Agra Fort on the bank of Yamuna River.
During his period, Agra emerged as India's most famous center for art
& culture, learning and commerce. The trend continued and reached its
zenith during the rule of Shah Jehan, another famous king of Mughal
dynasty. Shah Jehan was the builder of the great Taj Mahal in Agra.
Other architectural masterpieces of Agra include the Agra Fort, the
Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, and Bulund Darwaza at Fatehpur Sikri (a
nearby town from Agra built by Akbar). Travel to Agra to witness the
